Bears get past Jets, 38-34

The Chicago Bears held on for a wild, 38-34 victory over the New York Jets in an unexpeced shootout.

Both of these teams are much better known for stingy, opportunistic defense than explosive offenses, and the cold, snowy weather would seem to only emphasize that.

Quarterback Jay Cutler had one of those days where he simply could do no wrong, throwing for 215 yards, three touchdowns and just one interception.

Running back Matt Forte also had a nice day, finishing with 113 yards and a touchdown on just 19 carries. (more…)

Hester sets return record

Chicago Bears wideout Devin Hester marched into the record books with his 64-yard punt return for a touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings.

He tied Brian Mitchell’s record for most combined kickoff and punt returns for touchdowns all-time with 14.

Hester nearly broke the record later in the game when he returned a kickoff 79 yards, only to be tackled at the six-yard line.

The wide receiver said that it felt great to reach the record in the same game his team clinched the NFC North title. (more…)

Bears no match for Patriots, 36-7

The Chicago Bears learned they are still not quite ready to play with the big boys in a 36-7 loss to the New England Patriots.

The game was played in the middle of a snowstorm that saw winds sustained at 30 MPH and gusts up to 50 MPH.

Quarterback Jay Cutler had a rough day, fumbling once, getting sacked twice and throwing two interceptions.

The Bears were never able to get a running game going behind Matt Forte, who finished with just 25 yards on nine carries. (more…)

Bears edge Lions, 24-20

The Chicago Bears made just enough plays to squeak out a 24-20 win over the host Detroit Lions.

Quarterback Jay Cutler finally woke up in the second half and finished with 237 yards passing and a touchdown.

It was a tight game all the way, but the Bears just seemed to be able to make a couple more plays than the Lions. (more…)
