Bears an option for Favre?

Former NFL star Brett Favre said he would listen if the Chicago Bears contacted him about joining their team for the stretch run.

The Bears have lost two games in a row after losing Jay Cutler for the rest of the regular season with a thumb injury.

Caleb Hanie has been less than impressive in place of Cutler, though the team maintains there will be no quarterback tryout.

Donovan McNabb is another name that has been floated around, but it does not appear that the Bears have any interest in him, either. (more…)

Bears hold off Panthers, 34-29

The Chicago Bears built a big lead a couple of times but had to hold on for a 34-29 win over the Carolina Panthers.

It was all about running back Matt Forte in this one. He topped the 200-yard rushing mark and also scored a touchdown.

The Bears also found other ways to score, returning both an interception and a punt for a touchdown.

With the punt-return touchdown, Devin Hester now stands alone in the record books with the 12th of his career. (more…)

Bears release Harris

The Chicago Bears have finally decided to release former first-round draft pick Tommie Harris.

Harris came out of Oklahoma as a dominant lineman who could stuff the run and rush the passer.

The team signed Harris to a big extension in 2008 even though some in the organization felt it was a bad move.

Harris was fined more than 12 times by the organization for various reasons, and he also didn’t perform on the field. (more…)

Lovie gets two-year extension

The Chicago Bears have given head coach Lovie Smith a two-year contract extension after guiding them to the NFC North title.

The new deal keeps Smith as the head coach through 2013 and from being a lame duck next year.

Smith’s team also reached the NFC championship game, ironically losing to a team in their own division.

In his short time with the Bears, Smith has guided the Bears to two NFC championship appearances and one Super Bowl appearance. (more…)

Smith thinks Cutler is great leader

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said he believes that quarterback Jay Cutler is becoming a great leader.

Smith said players watch how Cutler carries himself during practices and like what they see from him.

He also said that Cutler is a tough guy, and said that he fits the persona of what a Chicago quarterback should be.

Cutler has been under fire since leaving the team’s NFC championship matchup against Green Bay with a knee injury. (more…)

Cutler has sprained MCL

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler underwent an MRI that determined he has a sprained MCL.

Cutler has been the focus of a lot of criticism following the team’s loss to the Packers and his removal from the game.

Doctors say that even if the Bears had beaten the Packers, there is no way that he could have played in the Super Bowl.

The team has quickly moved in to defend him, and the coaching staff said they decided to bench Cutler. (more…)

Bears rally comes up short against Packers, 21-14

The Chicago Bears fell behind early and rallied back late, but it wasn’t enough in a 21-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

It also didn’t help that Chicago saw starting quarterback Jay Cutler and backup Todd Collins both get knocked out of the game with injuries.

There was some questions raised following the game about how bad Jay Cutler’s knee injury really was and why he didn’t return.

Third-string quarterback Caleb Hanie actually played really well and almost orchestrated an improbable comeback. (more…)

Bears cruise past Seahawks, 35-17

The Chicago Bears were on upset alert and had no trouble dispatching the Seattle Seahawks, 35-17.

Chicago raced out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and held a 28-0 lead early in the third quarter, putting the game out of reach.

Quarterback Jay Cutler was solid in his first ever playoff game, throwing for 274 yards and two touchdowns.

Tight end Greg Olsen only had three catches, but he made the most of them. Olsen finished with 113 yards and a touchdown on the day. (more…)

Bears get lucky drawing Seahawks

The Chicago Bears could have been stuck facing the New Orleans Saints, but instead ended up with a pleasant surprise.

The Bears will host the Seattle Seahawks with a berth in the NFC championship game on the line.

While it would seem like a fantastic draw for the Bears, they did lost at home earlier in the year to Seattle.

There is no doubt that the Bears would love nothing more than to avenge that loss and reach the NFC championship game. (more…)

Bears can’t stop Packers, 10-3

The Chicago Bears didn’t rest any of their starters but still came up short in a 10-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The Bears were hoping for a miracle in the form of an Atlanta loss, which could have given them the NFC’s No. 1 seed.

Instead, Atlanta crushed Carolina as was expected and the Bears could not get past the Packers.

The game had added significance for the Bears because a victory would have booted their rivals out of the playoffs. (more…)
